New Delhi:
A Patiala House court in Delhi has asked Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy to present his case on January 21, on why Home Minister P Chidambaram should be summoned and made a co-accused in the 2G case.
"On January 21, I will argue on why Chidambaram should be summoned. I will explain how he was involved in this scam and should therefore be made an accused based on my evidence," said Mr Swamy.
Appearing in court today, Mr Swamy finished presenting his evidence as a witness in the case. He had earlier sought the court's permission to examine two senior government officials (a former Joint Secretary in the Finance Ministry and a Joint Director of the CBI), but today said he does not need to do so anymore as he already has strong evidence.
"I've got all the relevant documents certified by the PMO, the Finance Ministry and the CBI. Therefore there's no need for those 2 witnesses to testify," he said.
Mr Swamy has argued that several documents including the minutes of a series of meetings between the then Finance Minister Chidambaram and former Telecom Minister A Raja in 2008, prove Chidambaram's complicity with Raja in the 2G spectrum scam.
These documents have been placed before the court by Mr Swamy. His contention is that Mr Raja did not act alone as the Telecom Minister in the scam and that Chidambaram was instrumental in the decisions on spectrum pricing and allowing dilution of equity by Swan and Unitech, which helped the companies make windfall gains, at the expense of the exchequer.
During the last hearing, Mr Swamy had sought more time to produce fresh documents before the court.
