Three people were arrested for allegedly desecrating religious books in a gurudwara in Amritsar, police said today.
The accused, identified as Prem Titu, Raju Masih and Shamsher, also stole money from the donation box, station house officer Mukhtyar Singh said, adding that they were criminals and a number of theft and loot cases had been registered against them.
The incident occurred in the early hours at a gurudwara located at village 'Ramdiwali Musalmanna'.
The accused were nabbed by villagers and handed over to police.
Last year, Punjab had witnessed a series of such incidents, sparking protests in different parts of the state.
