3 Indians deported for working illegally in UK

London: British officials have arrested and deported three Indian citizens who were found working illegally at a fish-and-chip shop in South Tyneside, north England.

UK Border Agency officers arrested the three men in their late teens and 20s during a raid at the shop in Jarrow last month.

They have since been returned to India, reports from South Tyneside said.

A fourth man arrested during the same operation is continuing to report to the agency.

The restaurant owner was issued with a notice of potential liability for employing the workers, and could face a fine of up to 30,000 pounds, if it is found that proper checks on staff were not carried out before employing them, the reports added.

Wallace Wilson, manager of the UK Border Agency's Northumbria Local Immigration Team, said: "Where an individual does not have the right to be in the country, the UK Border Agency will take all possible steps to remove them. These men have now been returned to India".

He added, "Immigration crime is not victimless. It defrauds the taxpayer, and takes advantage of some of society's most vulnerable people. The agency will continue to clamp down on employers who choose to use illegal labour. "We carry out regular operations like this across the whole of the region."
