Guwahati: The National Highway 31, connecting Assam to West Bengal, was blocked for some time this morning after angry residents of Bijni in lower Assam blocked held a protest against the death of three school students, who died after being hit by a speeding Bolero vehicle.
The incident occurred early morning when four young boys were out jogging by the side of NH 31.
Three were killed on the sport by the speeding vehicle while the fourth one is battling for his life in a hospital.
Police teams from the local police teams rushed to the spot pacify the protesters.
Protesters blocked NH 31, a crucial highway that connects the North East to the rest of India, demanding that the guilty driver be arrested and an assurance given to widen the highway.
They also want compensation for the families of those who died.
