Raipur: Three students from Pune, who were abducted allegedly by the Naxals while they were on a 'cycle-rally for peace' have been released, the police have said.
The trio - Adarsh Patil, Vikas Valake and Shrikrushna Shewale- left their homes on December 20. They were believed to have been abducted on December 30 from Bijapur district, where they were last contacted.
"The youths have been released and they have safely reached Chintalnar camp," Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, S R P Kalluri, told Press Trust of India.
Their families have been informed. Senior police officers of Bastar are on their way to the camp to get them back.
The students were reportedly kept at a forest area in Timmapuram village,
The student had set out on their cycle rally from Pune as part of their "Bharat Jodo" (Link India) campaign to propagate the message of peace in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, the states worst affected by Naxalism over the past three decades. They were to conclude their rally at Balamela in Odisha on January 10 after travelling through via Bhiramgarh, Dantewada, Sukma and Malkangiri.
