Bhubaneswar:
Three more persons died due to sunstroke in Odisha taking the toll to 13 even as whole of the state except few places had slight respite from scorching heat today due to yesterday's hailstorm-induced rainfall.
The sunstroke toll in the state mounted to 13 today with three more deaths reported from Angul and Balasore districts, according to sources in special relief commissioner's office.
While 14 districts had recorded temperature above 40 degrees Celsius yesterday, the number came down to four today due to overcast sky, weather department regional director SC Sahu said, adding there is no heatwave warning for tomorrow.
However, the MeT office bulletin said the heatwave condition could return on May 2.
Bhubaneswar, which recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius with relative humidity (RH) level at 82 per cent yesterday, experienced a high of 39.9 degrees Celsius with RH at 84 per cent.
The highest temperature of 44 degrees Celsius was recorded at Sonepur in western Odisha followed by Sundergarh (41), Talcher (40.8) and Bhawanipatna (40.5), Met office sources said.
The number of alleged sunstroke death cases has meanwhile increased to 134 of which 13 have been confirmed as heat-related ones, Special Relief Commissioner PK Mohapatra said.
