Six terrorists, including two Pakistan nationals, have been killed in two separate encounters with the security forces in the Anantnag and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. One Army jawan has been killed while two others have been injured during the encounter, they added.
The back-to-back encounters started last evening as security forces launched anti-terror operations at Nowgam Anantnag and Mirhama village in the Kulgam district.
"Six terrorists of proscribed terror outfit JeM killed in two separate encounters. 4 among the killed terrorists have been identified so far as two Pakistani & two local terrorists. Identification of other 02 terrorists is being ascertained. A big success for us," Kashmir Zone Police tweeted this morning, quoting Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.
The first encounter started at Nowgam Anantnag where, according to police, one policeman was injured in the shootout. In the gun battle that followed, three terrorists, including a Pakistani terrorist, were killed, police said.
Soon after the Anantnag encounter, security forces launched another operation at Mirhama in Kulgam where three terrorists were killed in a brief encounter.
Police said they suspected the presence of another terrorist in the area.
