30 feared killed as van rolls down into river in J&K

Kishtwar: At least 30 people were feared killed when a van skidded off the road and plunged into river Chenab in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening.

The vehicle was on its way from Thatri to Kishtwar when it met with the accident near Phagu Morch, 203-km from Jammu, at around 1815 hrs, police said.

The van was packed to capacity with some passengers sitting on its roof when it rolled down into the river.

Two passengers, who swam to safety, said some 30-35 people were travelling in the ill-fated vehicle.

Authorities immediately launched the rescue operation which was, however, suspended due to darkness, police said.

The operation to locate any possible survivor and the van would be resumed tomorrow, police said.
