Baharampur: A 30-year-old woman's mouth and tongue were seriously bruised when a man attacked her with a weapon as she resisted a rape attempt at Hukahara in Murshidabad district, police said today.
The incident occurred yesterday when the woman was grazing her cattle in a field and the man made an attempt to rape her.
As the woman put up a fight, the man beat her mouth with a sharp weapon before escaping.
The woman suffered serious injuries in her mouth and tongue, they said.
The woman's husband filed an FIR, but the accused was absconding, police said.
