New Delhi: 300 trains in North India have been affected because of the huge power outage in North and Eastern India.

Today's crisis comes after seven states and Delhi were without power for many hours yesterday after the Northern supply grid collapsed.  Today, the same grid is down again; so is the Eastern grid.

100 trains of the Northern Railways and an equal number in the Eastern Railways are stranded. All suburban train services in Kolkata have been affected. Eastern Railway has cancelled at least three long-distance trains - Kalka Mail, Doon Express and Bagh Express. The South-Eastern Railway PRO told NDTV that at least 100 passenger trains were stranded - the only section working in that division was between Khurda in Odisha and Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Yesterday, Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains ran about five-six hours late all day.  500 passenger trains and 1.5 lakh  passengers were affected. 200 goods trains were stopped so that passenger trains could get priority on tracks.  The losses were in the range of 100 crores.
