35,000 troops phased out of J&K: Omar Abdullah
Srinagar: J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that 35,000 Army jawans have been phased out of the state during his tenure as the Chief Minister so far.

Speaking in the state legislative assembly on Thursday, he said there has also been a reduction in the numbers of central forces like the CRPF and the BSF as well.

He further added that the state government was not constructing any permanent structures as bunkers for the security forces in the valley.

"We have phased out 35,000 Army jawans from the state. There camps have been wound up and they have been shifted to some other part of the country. We didn't raise any hue and cry about it and it did not impact the situation at all. There hasn't been any spurt in militancy from the areas where the army has been vacated," said Omar.

Omar also said a policy for rehabilitation of stone pelters is in the offing.

"Rehabilitation of stone pelters is in the offing. We have not announced any policy in this regard outside the Assembly", he told the Legislative Assembly while reacting to the allegation of the Opposition that rehabilitation policy for stone pelters has been formulated by the police.

He further said "if those holding guns can be rehabilitated why not stone pelters they are ours. I do not want to arrest anyone (stone pelters), but I am forced to take such steps."
