39,361 Fresh Coronavirus Cases In India, Marginally Lower Than Yesterday

India today added 39,361 fresh coronavirus cases, which is marginally lower than yesterday's count. The country also reported 416 deaths over a 24-hour period; it had reported 535 deaths a day ago.

  1. The test positivity rate - number of positive cases identified per hundred - stands at 3.41 per cent, above 3 per cent after 34 days.

  2. The centre has provided more than 45.37 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses to States and Union Territories so far, said the Union Health Ministry.

  3. Kerala with 17,466 cases in a day leads the states in most number of infections in a day. It also reported 66 deaths.

  4. Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state with maximum overall cases. It added 6,843 cases and 123 deaths over the past 24 hours.

  5. Cinema halls, theatres and multiplexes can reopen at 50 per cent capacity from today in Delhi. While the Delhi Metro has been allowed to run at full capacity, the DMRC clarified that it will only allow 50 passengers per coach and no standing passengers will be allowed. The gathering limit at wedding ceremonies and funerals has also been increased from 50 to 100.

  7. Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the country, reported just three cases and one death due to coronavirus in a day.

  8. Mizoram with 2,307 cases reported the most number of Covid cases in a day among northeastern states. It is followed by Manipur (1,207) and Assam (1,054).

  9. Security was beefed up along the borders of Haridwar district to prevent Kanwariyas from entering the state, as Uttarakhand has suspended the Kanwar Yatra this year in view of a looming threat of a third Covid wave.

  10. The Punjab government has allowed reopening of schools for Classes 10, 11 and 12 from today.

  11. The government of Goa has extended the statewide curfew order up to August 2.
