Four men were arrested on Monday in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly posting derogatory comments on WhatsApp about Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Harda, Madhya Pradesh: Four men arrested in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly posting derogatory comments on WhatsApp about Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his alleged role in the Vyapam scam, were granted bail by a local court yesterday evening.

The men were arrested yesterday morning for their alleged "derogatory, communal comments" about Mr Chouhan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, actor Salman Khan and politician Lalu Prasad Yadav.

"We received a complaint that in a whatsapp group, its members as posting derogatory comments about politicians, actors. We investigated and when we found merit in the complaint we arrested the four men," said Vinod Srivastava, a senior police officer.

Narayan Agrawal, a local village head, Pramod Tekam, Satish Guar, and Vikas Gujjar, were booked for "promoting disharmony."

The police claim that the complaint was filed by the administrator of the whatsapp group, Anil Gujjar, but he has denied filing any complaint.

Anil Gujjar said, "I do not know why the police have made me a complainant in this case. I have not complained against anyone."

According to people close to the accused men, they were jailed because of their comments about the chief minister in connection with the Vyapam recruitment scam. The Central Bureau of Investigation is probing the massive irregularities in recruitments done by Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or 'Vyapam'.

The opposition has been asking for the chief minister's resignation.

The Vyapam scam, which is said to involve ministers, judges and bureaucrats, has caused a countrywide political storm, especially over the unusual number of deaths linked to the case.
