4 Cops Injured As Group Attacks Police Team, Frees Accused

Muzaffarnagar: Four police officers have been injured in stone throwing after an accused was allegedly freed from their custody by a group of his supporters in Shamli district, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when the police team was taking Aleem, accused in a drug smuggling case, to the police station, SP Ajaypal Sharma said.

The police team was attacked by the group of Aleem's supporters and freed him from custody, he said, adding four police officers were injured in the incident.

The injured have been identified as Sub Inspectors Adesh Kumar, Jitender Singh, Arvind Singh and constable Shakil. Efforts are on to arrest the absconding accused, police added.
