Four policemen were killed today in a major terror attack in Shopian district of South Kashmir. After the attack, the terrorists escaped with three AK-47 rifles of the policemen.
Police sources say the policemen had gone to an automobile workshop near Arhama fruit mandi to repair their vehicle when the heavily armed terrorists opened fire at them.
Soon after the incident, security forces launched a search operation in the area but the attackers had managed to escape.
While two policeman died on the spot, the other two died to their injuries in a nearby hospital. In a tweet, Jammu and Kashmir Police paid tribute to the policemen killed in the attack.
Police has registered a case and probe has been initiated in the matter.
"In a terror strike we lost four boys in #Shopian.Our tribute to the brave hearts . We shall always remember their supreme sacrifice.@JmuKmrPolice (sic)," the tweet read.
The policemen killed in the terror attack have been identified as Constable Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, Constable Javaid Ahmad Bhat, Constable Mohammad Iqbal Mir and SPO Adil Manzoor Bhat.
Police has registered a case and a probe has been initiated in the matter.
Last week, three policemen, including an inspector rank officer, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir after terrorist targeted off-duty policemen, who had come to celebrate Eid with their families.
