4 killed, 150 injured over playground in West Bengal

Burdwan: Four persons were killed and 150 others injured on Tuesday after a clash allegedly broke out between residents of two villages over the control of a playground at Purbasthali area in Burdwan district.

The clash occurred after a man from Ghoshpara village was allegedly shot dead by some persons from Alunipara village following an altercation between them over the playground dispute issue, police said.

"Soon, residents of Ghoshpara trooped into Alunipara and hacked three villagers to death. The trio died on the spot," Kalna Sub-divisional Police Officer Rathindranath Mukherjee said.

The incident triggered clashes in both the villages. As many as 60 houses were damaged and 150 people injured in the clashes, police said.
