Vadodara: Four lions have been encaged in accordance with Gujarat government's orders after three people were killed by big-cats in eastern Gir forests in the past few months.
"The forest department of Gujarat government has ordered for encaging the entire pride of lions found near the village and analysis of their behaviour," Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF) of Gir (East) Division, T Karuppasamy said.
"We have caught four lions so far. We are trying to track and encage the other members of the pride in the area. The animals would be taken to a rescue centre in Jasadhar village," he said.
"Before that incident, a 50-year-old woman, identified as Labhuben D Solanki and 60-year-old man, Jinabhai Makwana, were killed by Asiatic lions in the same districts of Bharad and Ambardi villages respectively," he said.
"People residing in the East Division of Gir forests have been issued warnings of possible lion attacks from time to time. But they don't follow instructions which causes such tragedies to recur," he added.
