The Met department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places
Dehradun:
A 48-hour weather alert for Uttarakhand has been sounded by the Dehradun Meteorological Department starting today evening.
The warning has been issued for Pithoragarh, Almora, Champawat, Udhamsignh Nagar and Nainital in the Kumaon region, while Pauri district in Garhwal will too get its share of rain.
The Met department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places with rainfall between 64.5 to 124.4 mm over the next two days.
The State Disaster Relief Force and local administration are on standby so that immediate rescue can be started in case of any natural disaster following the downpour, stated Piyoosh Rautela, Secretary for State Disaster Management.
A meeting was held with District Magistrates following which a decision was taken to not halt the Chardham Yatra or the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
It seems that the State government has learnt its lesson well post the 2013 disaster and is following the mantra of preparedness, prevention and mitigation to the tee.
