The Supreme Court today put on hold three controversial laws at the core of the massive farmers' protests near Delhi. "We are staying three farm laws until further orders," the three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde said. The top court also said a four-member committee of agricultural experts would be formed to take over negotiations with farmers to end the crisis, saying "It is a victory for fair play". During the hearing, the government had told the court that the laws "were not hurriedly made", that they were the result of two decades of deliberations. In eight rounds of talks with farmers' unions over the past month, the government had firmly ruled out withdrawing the laws but had insisted that amendments were on the table.
