Five persons were killed in separate road accidents on the Bombay-Nashik Highway in Sahapur taluka of the district, police said today.
Both the mishaps took place yesterday.
In the first accident a SUV collided head on with a motorbike in Shevali village killing two riders on the spot.
The dead were identified as Gurunath Govind Farde (26) and Sasopa Farde (22), both residents of Ute Fardepada, police said.
The driver of the SUV, D S Uttekar has been arrested, they said.
In the second incident which took place night, a SUV which was proceeding from Mumbai to Nashik hit the divider after the driver lost control over the vehicle near Shirol village and subsequently collided head with a container coming from the opposite.
Three occupants of the SUV were killed and their bodies have been sent for postmortem, police said.
The dead have been identified as Vivek Gughe, Abhisehk Kadrekar, and Vaibhav Vinervakar, all residents of Nashik.
Police said they have registered offences under section 304 of the IPC in connection with both the accidents.
