Sukma District:
Five security personnel were injured when Naxals ambushed a team of security forces in the restive jungles of insurgency-hit Sukma district in Chhattisgarh today, police said.
"The exchange of fire took place between a joint team of Special Task Force (STF), state's District Reserve Group (DRG) and rebels when security forces were out on an anti-Naxal operation in Kistaram area," Inspector General of Police (anti-Naxal operations) Deepanshu Kabra told the Press Trust of India.
While security forces were cordoning off a forested patch in Kistaram region, a group of armed rebels opened indiscriminate fire, leaving two STF and three DRG jawans injured, the Inspector General said.
"However, ultras fled from the spot when jawans launched a fierce retaliatory action," he added.
Reinforcement was rushed to the spot and efforts are on to retrieve the injured personnel from dense forest, he added.
