New Delhi:
It's not just the IPL team owners who have been reluctant to disclose their assets, many of our Members of Parliament are also not clean about their assets.
Despite sending six personal reminders and nine circulars over nine months, there are 51 such MPs who have failed to disclose their assets and liabilities to the House. Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has now written to these MPs, threatening to take action if they do not submit their papers with immediate effect.
The Congress is the biggest offender; twenty four of its MPs have not disclosed their assets. None of the defaulters are ministers, but include Haryana Chief Minister's son Deepender Singh Hooda and Sultanpur MP Sanjay Singh.
"I am asking my people to process the papers today," said Deepender Singh Hooda, Congress MP from Rohtak.
"I have been busy. There is no excuse and this is wrong what I have done. Papers will be sent urgently," said Madhu Yakshi Goud, another Congress MP from Nizamabad.
Other prominent defaulters are:
- RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav who is facing embezzlement charges in the 900-crore fodder scam
- West Singhbhum MP Madhu Koda who is being investigated in a multi-crore money-laundering and mining scam that he allegedly kicked off while he was the Chief Minister of Jharkhand
- And Etah MP Kalyan Singh
