Six fishermen from Tamil Nadu's Pudukottai district were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy while they were fishing near the Lankan coast, authorities said today.
Assistant director of the fisheries department, Sekar, said the fishermen of Jegathapattinam village were fishing at Neduntheevu last night when the Sri Lankan navy arrested them.
The fishermen along with their boat were later taken to Kangesanthurai, he added.
On December 17, four Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested for fishing near Neduntheevu islet off Lanka.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa recently sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention in securing the release of 41 fishermen from the state detained in Sri Lanka, besides 56 boats.
