New Delhi:
In a major breakthrough, six suspected terrorists of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) were arrested last night in Meghalaya in a joint operation by Army troops and the state police.
Six pistols, live rounds, and two hand grenades were recovered from the suspected terrorists in Pedaldoba in West Garo Hills.
The Army had launched an operation along with the Meghalaya Police last night based on information from sources. The suspected terrorists were nabbed in hand-to-hand combat, says the Army.
The Army says the suspected terrorists later disclosed their plans of carrying out extortion in Goalpara district of Assam.
Army sources said that kidnappings and extortion activities have increased along Assam - Meghalaya border as ULFA (Anti Talk) is trying to increase its terror.
"The modus operandi of the ULFA (Anti Talk) and GNLA as witnessed in last six months has been to carry out terrorist activities in Goalpara and Kamrup districts by moving out from the safe heavens in hills of Meghalaya," sources added.
This is first joint operation of the Army along with Meghalaya police in West Garo Hills. The Army says this will in future increase coordination between them and the state police.
