PM addresses MPs in Central Hall of Parliament:

  • As we mark the 60th anniversary of our Parliament, I hope that life will begin anew. Hope we will scale new heights. The voice of India's silent majority found free expression on these premises 60 years ago.
  • In these six decades, these halls, walls, have been witness to new experiment - never before have people risen so resolutely to construct, not kill.
  • It is a matter of great pride that our Parliament has debated and approved some of the most progressive legislations like Right to Education etc.
  • These august Houses have witnessed many great debates, sparkling humour, eloquence. The wisdom of their thoughts echoed beyond the walls. Unfortunately, the number of serious discussion declined over the years. It is the Members of Parliament that will determine how accurately we represent the needs of the people.

Gurudas Dasgupta: It is a year not only of celebration but of the introspection also. The people made it possible. We have to look back and think what we have done in the last 60 years. It's a great occasion, the largest democracy has travelled a long way. It was able to travel because the barriers were broken. We represent multi-polar political systems. It is not uni-polarity, neither is it multi-polarity. It is the pluralism that is the strength of the nation.

Lalu Prasad: I pay tribute to the Indian Parliament and the parliamentarians. All the people have come here to celebrate this precious occasion. There have been many ups and downs in these 60 years. We are rarely discussing about the problems of the nation. Let not anything divide us. Lokpal won't be able to do any good for the nation, it shouldn't become supreme. Only Parliament has the right to amend the Constitution.

I respect all the institutions which make the functioning of Parliament possible. We are ourselves responsible for the indifferences. We have unity in diversity, this can only happen in our country. In the country if we talk of society, there are many leaders who endorsed the societal equality.

Our party took some strong steps in this regard so there was no Naxal activity in UP. Terrorism is a big problem and our Parliament was also attacked. But there is politics both inside the House and outside it on the issue.
