Guwahati:
The violence may have ebbed in Assam's Bodoland but a medical emergency seems to have resulted out of the relief camps in the state. According to the state government, out of the over 8000 children in relief camps, 6000 are sick.
The government has said that the medical emergency is due to overcrowding in the relief camps. People at these camps have had complaints of insufficient food, drinking water and medicines. Earlier, two people including a two-year-child had died at the relief camps.
According to reports, there are just above 100 doctors to attend to the 3.5 lakh people in the camps, who were displaced due to the violence that led to over 50 deaths.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who visited relief camps in violence-hit Korajhar, has announced a Rs 300 crore relief package for the state.
