Nurmahal (Jalandhar): Seven school children were killed when their school van collided with a local train at an unmanned railway crossing in Jalandhar. The van driver was also killed in the collision.
The incident took place on Wednesday morning when the children were on theirway to school. This is not the first time such a tragedy has takenplace in the area which has a number of unmanned level crossing.
PTI adds: The van collided with the Ferozepur-Bathinda express at an unmanned railway crossing at Gumtala village in Jalandhar district early on Wednesday.
The school van was crossing the unmanned crossing at Gumatala when the mishap took place, police said.
The impact of the collision was so big that the van dragged with the train at least 200 meters away.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals where the condition of some of them was stated to be critical.
Senior police and railway officials have rushed to the spot for rescue operations.
