Seven persons died in rain related incidents in Rajasthan on Tuesday even as heavy showers affected normal life in Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Pali districts where Army has been deployed for relief and rescue work.
Six children were among the seven persons killed.
The children, aged 8 to 12 years, were grazing cattle and playing near a pit filled with rainwater when they accidentally slipped into it in Barmer district here, police said.
In another incident, a 25-year-old man was swept away by heavy flow of water on the bank of a river in Pali district here, police said.
Extremely heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in Chittorgarh while Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Jodhpur divisions received heavy to very rain since Monday.
Begu in Chittorgarh recorded maximum of 34 cm rain followed by Chittorgarh city (26 cm), Gangrar (22 cm) and (20 cm), the Met department said.
Secretary of the Disaster Management and Relief department Rohit Kumar informed that Army, NDRF and SDRF teams has been deployed in Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Pali and arrangement have also been made as a precautionary measure in Jhalawar and Kota districts.
"We are fully prepared and people in affected areas are being evacuated and shifted to safe places," he said.
As part of the rescue operation, the Air Force airlifted 16 people on Monday in both Chittorgarh and Pali districts.
Several hundred affected people have been shifted to safer places since yesterday by the rescue teams.
"Nearly 500 people have been shifted to safer places and as a precautionary measure, Army and NDRF teams have been deployed in the district on Tuesday for rescue and relief work," Inderjeet Singh, District Magistrate, Chittorgarh, said.
"Water level in rivers is high and dams are also filled to capacity therefore the situation is alarming but since there is no heavy rains since yesterday, the situation is likely to improve soon," he said.
In Bhilwara, Mandalgarh recorded 18 cm rain followed by Pali which received 20 cm of rainfall.
"Water logging is in several areas and many villages are cut off from the district headquarters," District Magistrate (Bhilwara) Tina Kumar said, adding affected people were evacuated and shifted to the safe places.
2.23 lakh cusec water has been released from Bisalpur dam to Banas river here, District Magistrate (Tonk) M P Sharma said.
Jodhpur recorded maximum of 153.6 mm rainfall while Ajmer, Kota, Barmer, Dabok and Churu received 12, 9, 7.4, 2.2 and 0.2 mm of rain respectively, the Met department.
The department has predicted heavy rains in the state during next 24 hours.
