Rangiya, Assam: A powerful bomb, weighing more than seven kilograms, was recovered from a train compartment in Assam today, police said.
Security personnel spotted a plastic bag covered with a towel and wires sticking out in front a toilet on the Lumding-Kamakhya Express.
They immediately informed officials and the train was halted at Kendukona station, 52 kilometres from the state capital of Guwahati.
The passengers were asked to disembark and senior police, civil and railway officials along with a dog squad of the Assam Police rushed to the spot.
The Bomb Disposal squad of the Indian Army's Red Horn division reached the spot and used a Remote Operated Vehicle to detonate the bomb.
The unit dug a hole about 100 meters from the station and deactivated the bomb.
