72 Hour Weather Alert In 7 Districts Of Uttarakhand From Thursday

Dehradun: A precautionary weather alert has been issued in 7 of the 13 districts in Uttarakhand after the monsoon hit the hill state last week.

The state has been marred with Innumerable landslides and many rain related incidents over the past few weeks, but the government says it is was prepared to deal with the heavy rains while cautioning tourists.

"Though the lowest category of alert has been sounded for 72 hours starting 30th morning, precautionary measures are a must for those who plan to venture into the hills especially the Chardham Yatra route, Mansarovar Yatra and also those who are settled close to rivers in at this time of the year," said Vikram Bakshi, Director of MeT Department.

After the Kedarnath tragedy and the floods in Uttarakhand in June 2013 which killed over 5,000 people, the state has been working on war-footing to deal with monsoon's adverse effects especially along with Chardham Yatra route and the Mansarovar Yatra route in Kumaon.

"Rescue teams have been put in places close to active landslides. They have been asked to be prepared to deal with any eventuality," Santosh Badoni, Additional Secretary, Uttarakhand.
