73 people were rescued on Saturday after an avalanche struck a mountainous pass along Kupwara - Tangdhar road near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, the army said.
"Army detachment based at Nasta Chhun received information about stranded vehicles full of passengers including women, children, elderly and a critically ill heart patient aboard an ambulance. Army avalanche rescue team of Nasta Chhun Pass sprang into action immediately despite harsh weather conditions, snow blizzard and zero visibility," a defence spokesman said.

The spokesperson added that after the rescue operation, Army provided medical aid to patients and also ensured that they reach their destination safely. "The rescued persons appreciated the Army which came to their rescue by risking their own lives amidst the avalanche warnings," he said.
