Maharashtra Sees 11,877 New Covid Cases, Most From Mumbai (8,063)

Mumbai: Maharashtra logged 11,877 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, 29 per cent higher than yesterday, with Mumbai registering 8,063 of the fresh infections (27 per cent higher than yesterday). The state saw nine Covid deaths since yesterday.

Maharashtra recorded 50 new cases of the new Omicron variant today, most of the cases (38) have been reported from Pune. Mumbai reported one new Omicron case. Maharashtra's overall Omicron count now stands at 510, including 328 cases from Mumbai.

Delhi added 3,194 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours. One patient died in the last 24 hours. The figure is the highest daily surge in the national capital since May 22.
India reported a 21 per cent jump in new Covid cases as it reported 27,553 infections on Sunday, besides 284 more deaths due to the virus.
Official data indicate that thickly populated metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are seeing some of the sharpest rises in coronavirus cases.
Maharashtra had reported 9,170 new coronavirus cases and seven Covid-related deaths on Saturday, including 6,347 cases from Mumbai.
Maharashtra Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Dr Pradeep Vyas has predicted that the state may report a total of two lakh active cases by January third week.
The Omicron variant - said to be highly infectious - is now present in 106 countries spreading at a fast pace since it first emerged in South Africa in November.
