New Delhi: In the first export of a warship by India, a state-run firm based in Kolkata will hand over - for 50 million dollars - an offshore patrol vessel to the Mauritian navy later this month.
The 1,350-ton Barracuda with a top speed of 22.5 knots is 74 metres long. It is designed for anti-piracy, anti-smuggling and anti-poaching operations, can be deployed for search and rescue efforts, and can also transport a small detachment of troops.
Garden Reach Ship Builders, based on Kolkata, builds commercial and naval ships. It is bidding to supply two light frigates to the Philippine Navy. It's also in negotiations with Vietnam for the supply of fast attack craft of a displacement of 140 tonnes.
