A grab from the CCTV footage shows Amanpreet Kaur holding on against the attacker.

Moga, Punjab: Despite being pinned to the ground with powdered red chillies in her eyes and repeatedly hit, a woman put up a brave fight when she was attacked by a robber on her way back from work on Friday evening in Punjab's Moga.

As a result, the man is now in jail and Amanpreet Kaur, 35, the school teacher who could have been his victim, is being hailed as a hero. Her feat was caught on CCTV and the footage has gone viral on social media.

The attacker had been pursuing her for some time and as Ms Kaur reached closer home, he crossed her and flung powdered red chillies into her eyes.

Ms Kaur said, "While I was on my way back from school, this man started following me. When I reached near the market, he put red pepper in my eyes and tried to snatch my bag. But, I caught his arm and started shouting...though he threw me down I didn't allow him to escape."

The footage shows the man, dressed in a white T-shirt and jeans, casually walking past Ms Kaur, who is wearing a red and green salwar suit, through a narrow alley and suddenly throwing something into her eyes. After that, he lunges for her bag but she refuses to let go despite falling to the ground and the man hitting her a few times.

Ms Kaur held on to her bag and the attacker, till help arrived. Neighbours, hearing her shout, came out and caught the robber. They beat him up before someone called the police and handed him over.
