Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today released its second list of 13 candidates for the 2017 Punjab Assembly election.
It was released at Amritsar by the party's Punjab in-charge Sanjay Singh and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann. Prominent names in the list include that of the AAP state women's wing president Baljinder Kaur from Talwandi Sabo, head of the party's trade wing Aman Arora from Sunam, the party's Scheduled Caste or SC wing chief Dev Mann from Nabha (SC) and Anu Randhawa, the daughter of late Congress leader Jasjit Randhawa, from Ghanaur.
The rest of the candidates are Jaswinder Singh Jahangir from Attari (SC), Daljeet Singh Grewal from Ludhiana East, Sarbans Singh Manki from Samrala, Gurpreet Singh Bhatti from Amloh, Harpal Singh Cheema from Dirba (SC), Karanvir Singh Tiwana from Patiala Rural, Baldev Singh Azad from Malout (SC), Ravjot Singh from Sham Chaurasi (SC) and Baldev Singh from Jaito (SC).
The first list of 19 candidates was announced by the party on August 4.
It was learnt that AAP Punjab convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur had raised objections regarding "one or two names" who were given the party ticket.
Of the candidates, five are Class XII pass, one is Class X pass, while one is a doctor, said a release.
Jaswinder Jahangir (38), BA BEd, was a vice-president of ETT Teachers' Union, Punjab. He has taken part in protests in support of farmers, labourers and the unemployed youth. Daljeet Singh Grewal (49), a progressive farmer, was a two-time councillor from Ludhiana.
Harpal Singh Cheema (43), who will contest the polls from Dirba, is a lawyer and the ex-president of Bar Association of Sangrur.
Karanvir Singh Tiwana (40) is Class X pass and a senior vice president of the party's farmers' wing. He has taken part in the protest spearheaded by Anna Hazare.
Dev Mann (46), an actor and singer, is the chief of the party's SC wing.
Baldev Singh Azad, MA MEd, has been teaching for 34 years and has authored four books, the release said. Baljinder Kaur (30), MA MPhil, is the chief of the party's women's wing. She had unsuccessfully contested the Talwandi Sabo by-election earlier.
Ravjot Singh (39), MD (PGI Chandigarh), has been conducting free medical camps at Hoshiapur, while Anu Randhawa (35) is a social worker.
Baldev Singh (58) is a JBT teacher and the former chief of the teachers' union at Faridkot.
Gurpreet Singh Bhatti (43) was a general secretary of the Peoples' Party of Punjab which has now merged with the Congress.
Sarbans Singh Manki (46) had resigned as a member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) after the Bargari sacrilege incident.
Aman Arora (42), a graduate, is currently heading the trade and transport and industry wing of the AAP in Punjab, said the release.
