New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers will meet Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's today to protest what they claim are inflated water and electricity bills in the capital.
The party, which had planned a protest march from Jantar Mantar to the Chief Minister's residence, has called it off after she reportedly agreed to accept letters of complaint written to her by Delhi residents, which AAP workers have collected.
"We were planning to hold a protest march from Jantar Mantar to the Chief Minister's residence. But, she called up one of the AAP representatives today and agreed to accept 10,50,000 letters written to her by the people of Delhi highlighting the inflated bills," AAP spokesperson Aswathi Muralidharan told IANS.
Speaking to NDTV, the party's chief spokesperson Manish Sisodia said, "Yes, it's an election pitch, we want these issues to become the basis of the November (Delhi Assembly) elections."
Mr Kejriwal addressed the hundreds of protestors gathered at Jantar Mantar and said he would stay put there along with his party workers till the volunteers returned from Ms Dikshit's residence.
Earlier this month, Mr Kejriwal went on a two-week fast in protest against 'inflated' water and electricity bills in Delhi, which he alleges is because of a conspiracy between the government and private firms.
