Ghaziabad: Three Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates contesting the Ghaziabad municipal polls have received threats, and this includes the Mayoral candidate Pragati Tyagi, the party said on Tuesday.

Three separate complaints have been lodged with the police, AAP spokesperson Vivek Yadav told the media. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to "suppress" the AAP.

According to him, Ms Tyagi received a phone call from an unknown person who threatened her with "dire consequences" if she did not withdraw from the election.

He said the senior superintendent of police was told about the threat but no security had been provided to Ms Tyagi.

Another AAP candidate, Mukesh Goswami from Murad Nagar, was threatened by goons three times, the spokesperson said.

He alleged that a Boby Tyagi phoned Mr Goswami and told him to meet a senior BJP leader "for negotiations" but said the candidate was determined to contest the election.

And two masked criminals barged into the house of Sanjay Tyagi, the AAP candidate in ward 17 of Loni town. The police were informed but they were apathetic, the spokesperson said.
