Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP said it collected 20 crores in donations during its campaign in Delhi last year.
New Delhi:
Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party or AAP have failed to share information about their funding, the union government said in the Delhi High Court today.
The case is based on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which claims that AAP leaders violated laws and accepted donations from non-Indian citizens who live abroad.
(Government to probe foreign funding for Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party)The Home Ministry was ordered by the court in October to investigate the allegations.
A division bench of the court today asked the petitioner to include AAP as a respondent in the case and posted the matter for February 5.
AAP, led by
Arvind Kejriwal, who is now chief minister of Delhi, made a dazzling debut in the state elections in December. During its campaign, it said it collected 20 crores in donations through a largely-online effort.
(Received Rs. 20 crore in donations, don't need more: AAP)It has denied the charges that it incorrectly accepted foreign donations. Mr Kejriwal and other leaders had alleged that the investigation is a way of punishing them for demanding transparency and accountability in traditional parties like the Congress and BJP.
