Chandigarh: AAP lawmaker Naresh Yadav, who was arrested by the Punjab Police and taken to that state, was produced in a court this morning. He has been sent to judicial custody till July 1.

The AAP lawmaker from Delhi's Mehrauli, accused of desecrating the holy Quran, was arrested on July 24 from the national capital.

Defense counsel Himmat Singh Shergill said that police could not find any evidence against Mr Yadav and he will file for bail on Thursday.

Violence had erupted in the area after the alleged sacrilege of the holy book in Malerkotla in Sangrur district on June 24. Police have arrested three in connection with a case.

On basis of phone call details of one of the accused, Vijay Kumar, police said that Mr Yadav hatched the conspiracy and offered the accused Rs 1 crore for the crime.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has warned the BJP that if its government at the centre does not stop targeting AAP, it will "meet the same fate in Punjab, Goa and Gujarat," states it rules on its own or with allies.

Assembly elections will be held in all three states next year and Mr Kejriwal has announced that his party will attempt to form governments there.

Mr Kejriwal, who was elected for a second term with a colossal majority in February 2015, has been accused by critics, including the BJP, of a recurring preoccupation with attributing his problems to PM Narendra Modi's determination to nullify his authority.
