New Delhi: A law-maker from the Aam Aadmi Party or AAP wanted by the police for thrashing a government engineer has reportedly gone missing.
"AAP MLA Jarnail Singh is absconding," said BS Bassi, the chief of the Delhi Police, according to news agency ANI. Jarnail Singh's bail was rejected by a trial court on Saturday.
Mr Singh, 42, was elected to the state legislature from Tilak Nagar in West Delhi.
Late last month, he was named in a police case for leading a mob who beat up an engineer to prevent him from demolishing an illegal construction in Delhi.
The junior engineer, Azhar Mustafa, who works with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi or MCD, filed a police case against Mr Singh.
Mustafa has claimed that when Singh was shown documents authorizing the demolition, the politician tore them up.
But Mr Singh said that no notice had been served to the owner of the property.
Several AAP legislators have been named in police cases since Arvind Kejriwal led the party to a record victory in the state election three months ago.
