Ghaziabad:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been given time till April 30 to arrest Nupur Talwar in the Aarushi murder case. The court order comes after the CBI told the Ghaziabad court today that it wants more time to arrest Nupur Talwar. The CBI had asked for an extension of two more weeks to arrest Mrs Talwar.
Nupur Talwar, along with her husband Rajesh Talwar, is an accused in the murder of her 14-year-old daughter Aarushi.
During the last hearing on April 11, the special CBI court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Mrs Talwar after she failed to appear in court and her lawyers could not come up with a convincing explanation about her absence. The CBI told the court today that it could not arrest Mrs Talwar as she was hiding during the raids. However, last week in the Supreme Court the CBI said it had known where Mrs Talwar was and could have arrested her but didn't.
The CBI also assured the Supreme Court that it will not arrest Mrs Talwar till the Chief Justice of India refers her case against the non-bailable warrant to a regular bench of the Supreme Court.
Aarushi was found dead in her bedroom at the Talwars' home in the Delhi suburb of Noida in May 2008. The Talwars' domestic help, Hemraj, was discovered dead on their roof a day later.
Both the Talwars are dentists. Mr Talwar was arrested a week after Aarushi's death but was later released on bail when the CBI said it did not have any evidence against him. He is currently on bail.
