New Delhi:
The CBI has asked for stronger charges to be pressed against Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in the murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj. They also want the couple to be prosecuted for misleading the court. This they say should be over and above murder and murder and conspiracy charges. They also argued that the Talwars filed false affidavits and misled the investigations. Arguments on the framing of charges against Rajesh and Nupur Talwar have begun in the Ghaziabad court today.
The defence lawyers for the Talwars have argued that all the evidence in the case has been circumstantial and not direct.
Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court is also hearing Nupur Talwar's bail plea, slated to come up later today.
The Talwars were made accused in the murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj more than 14 months ago.
On Monday, the judge presiding gave the Talwars time till today for them to go through all the documents given to them by the CBI.
Yesterday the couple's advocate filed an application before the Additional District Judge of CBI special court Shyam Lal contending that the investigating agency has handed over 6000 pages of documents to them only a day before and they were not prepared for arguments against the charges. However, the judge gave them one day's time for being prepared.
Earlier, on May 16 the court had fixed today for the start of arguments on framing of charges against the dentist couple. It had rejected a request from the Talwars for a month to study the prosecution documents.
While Rajesh Talwar is out on bail, Nupur has been in judicial custody since April 30 when she surrendered before a Ghaziabad court on a direction by the Supreme Court.
