New Delhi:
Shocked over the CBI special court ordering their trial for the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar said on Wednesday "there is no justice in India" and that "it is a banana republic".
Nearly three years after she was found with her throat slit in her bedroom, Aarushi Talwar's parents have been accused of murdering the 13-year-old. They have also been accused of criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
(Read: Aarushi Talwar's parents charged with murder)The Talwars have said they will appeal against the court order that rejected the CBI's request to end its investigation into the murders of Aarushi and Talwars' domestic help, Hemraj. Both were found dead within hours of each other in May 2008.
Speaking to NDTV's Barkha Dutt on The Buck Stops Here, Nupur Talwar said that she was "shocked and horrified" by the court's decision and alleged that she and her husband Rajesh were being maligned.
Here's more on what Nupur Talwar told NDTV:
Q: I'm talking to you as a mother who has been charged with the murder of your daughter. Have you come to terms with the scale and gravity of the accusation that you are now officially charged with?
A: Absolutely not Barkha, I'm shocked and completely shattered by this kind of an accusation. This happened two years ago when my husband was accused of the same. Now it's happening again. I don't believe this. I mean you're talking about parents and child...I mean what is this? It's beyond my imagination that anyone can think like this. I'm shocked that at any level, the CBI...the officers can even think of anyone like this...I don't know...I mean there are mothers out there, fathers out there...how can you even imagine such a thing? It's absolutely inhuman to think of someone like this. It's too much for me. Humanity has fallen to its pits.
Q: It's not the CBI but the court who came to the conclusion and decided to charge both you and your husband with a murder even though the closure report said that it couldn't find any motive or evidence. But the court raised some unanswered questions and though it may be painful for you, it is my duty to raise these questions. One of the questions that the court raised , also raised in the CBI report, was the accusation that you and your husband had cleaned up your daughter's body and all evidence...that the body had been tampered with...to this charge that your daughter's body was found cleaned up, you would say what?
A: See first of all, officially we had a post-mortem report and we presented in front of the court with the findings of CBI which happened maybe one-and-a-half years after the post-mortem was conducted, and now is probably out of the memory of the doctor and no such thing has been mentioned anywhere in the report and in fact the doctor has categorically said that no abnormality detected. In such a situation, I don't understand that where this has come from after one-and-a-half years. I mean if it was all based on a post-mortem doctor's memory then only God can save this country. We have also spoken to a lot of forensic experts and we're surprised that the CBI has not found this out for themselves that the findings you are talking about is a normal situation when any person passes away and after a few hours this is what is found there.
