Abu Jundal sent to Tihar Jail

New Delhi: Key 26/11 suspect Abu Jundal was on Thursday sent to Tihar Jail by a Delhi court.

Sending Jundal to judicial custody, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Vidya Parkash directed jail authorities to present him in two different courts on October 8 and October 12.

"Accused Abu Jundal is directed to be produced before court of H.S. Sharma, NIA special judge on October 8. Direction will be issued to concerned jail superintendent to produce the accused in muffled face before special court of NIA on Oct 8," the judge said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the court that Jundal was required to be present in a special NIA court on October 8.

The agency has been seeking Jundal's custody in connection with a case to unearth Lashkar-e-Taiba's conspiracy for terror strikes across India.

Jundal was brought before the court by Maharashtra Police, who said he was not required for investigation in the state anymore.

They had taken Jundal's custody to interrogate his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, the 2010 German Bakery blast in Pune, the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case and a plot to attack the Nashik Police Academy.

The court on Sep 28 issued a fresh warrant for Jundal for Oct 12 after taking note of a charge sheet filed against him Sep 20 by Delhi police. The court also directed police to supply the documents and charge sheet to Jundal to prepare his defence.
