ABVP members taking out protest march in New Delhi
New Delhi:
New Delhi: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the students' wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, held a protest march today from New Delhi's Ramlila ground to Jantar Mantar over the JNU controversy.
Thousands of ABVP members gathered at Ramlila ground to protest against the solidarity march that JNU teachers and students took out yesterday to support the arrested student leaders demanding their release.
Kanhaiya Kumar, the JNU students' union president, was arrested on sedition charges earlier this month over the controversial event organised against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
Mr Kumar is in Tihar Jail. His bail plea will be heard by the high court on February 29.
JNU students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, also accused of sedition, surrendered before the police around midnight after their request to surrender at a secret location was rejected by the High Court yesterday.
Members of ABVP had earlier staged a protest at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) demanding expulsion of students who went ahead with a protest march on the campus against hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, despite withdrawal of permission by university authorities.
