New Delhi:
An upset Supreme Court today pulled up the Centre for not implementing its orders on banning the use of tinted glass on vehicles. The top court also slammed the authorities for only targeting the middle class and sparing the elite class from removing the black tints from their car windows.
"Even now cars are full of tinted glass. Least implementation of our orders. It is a sad state of affairs. Only middle class people are suffering. Upper class people are not at all affected. The accidents took place... all cars had black films on windows," said the Supreme Court.
The Additional Solicitor General then assured the court that he will convey the message to the Delhi Police and direct them to implement the order.
The Supreme Court had banned the use of tinted glass from June 4 this year, restricting visions beyond permissible limit in vehicles as fixed under the Motor Vehicles Act. However, the top court had exempted government vehicles for security purposes.
The law says that the glasses of windscreen and rear windows of vehicles should have a visual light transmission of 70 per cent and for side windows it should be at least 50 per cent.
Some manufacturers of tinted film approached the Supreme Court seeking clarifications. They argued that their films should be allowed to be used on car windows because it is within the limit prescribed by the law.
After hearing the arguments, the Supreme Court reserved its orders saying it will consider the plea made by the manufacturers.
