Activist Trupti Desia Offered 'Bigg Boss' Spot

Activist Trupti Desai claims she has been offered a spot on the upcoming season of Bigg Boss.

Pune: Rights activist Trupti Desai said today that she is the latest to be offered a spot on the popular reality television show "Bigg Boss". However, she said her participation will be dependent on whether the producers of the show change the male voice-over to a female one.

"I am ready to enter the (Bigg Boss) house. During my meeting with the producers of the show I told them that I will only participate if they are willing to rope in a female to do the voice-over of Bigg Boss," Ms Desai said.

In the existing format, a disembodied male voice is used to give commands to the participants in the reality show.

"I have not confirmed anything yet, I know it is difficult for them to replace the male voice with a female voice, but if they do this I will accept the offer," Ms Desai said. She added that the show will be a good platform for her to highlight her campaign for gender equality.

"Since there are several campaigns on various issues lined up in the next few months, it would be very difficult to stay in the house for a long time. However, the show is a good platform to spread our message about equality," she said.

Colors - the TV entertainment channel which airs Bigg Boss - has not confirmed or denied Ms Desai's claims. The producers of the show are looking to change the format ahead of its new season hosted by actor Salman Khan.

Ms Desai, who hails from Maharashtra, founded the Bhumata Brigade, and has successfully campaigned for women's entry into the inner sanctum of Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra, fueling a national debate on gender bias in various other temples of the country.
