New Delhi:
Indian intelligence officials will head to America soon to question David Coleman Headley, the man arrested by the FBI in Chicago for allegedly planning Mumbai-like terror attacks in cities across India.
The FBI also claims that Headley, in different emails, referred to a prominent Indian actor identified only as 'Rahul' , who was also possibly a target. Indian authorities say they have no clue who this Rahul could be.
"Neither the FBI nor the Centre has approached us for help or input in the Headley investigations. As of now, no one from the Mumbai police will be going to the USA to interrogate the accused. As of now, none of the actors with the name Rahul have been given protection," says D Sivanandan of the Mumbai Police.
David Coleman Headley, an American citizen, was arrested on October 3, for planning attacks against India and Denmark. Indian intelligence officials want exclusive access to him in America, instead of joint questioning with the FBI.
"We know Headley has travelled to Pakistan several times. But who he was friendly with, are matters of details. Once our investigators join the FBI on Sunday and start investigation on Monday, we will get more details," said Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday.
The FBI affidavit says Headley visited India to plan the attack on behalf of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). Sources reveal that the Indian Government has been informed that Headley's plot was bigger what the FBI has revealed so far. India is also worried by information that Headley's handler was Pakistan-based terrorist Ilyas Kashmiri. Headley attended school in Pakistan under the name Dawood Gilani.
The FBI claims Headley in close contact over email with Ilyas Kashmiri and several unidentified leaders of LeT, two of whom are identified as "LeT member A" and "LeT member B".
The FBI says Headley and a Pakistani-Canadian, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, were also planning to attack the offices of the Danish newspaper that published cartoons of Prophet Mohammed.
