Advani files nomination from Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar:

BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani filed his nomination papers from Gandhinagar constituency on Wednesday and with increased threat perception, the Gujarat police had tightened security in the state capital.

The collectorate's office in Gandhinagar had been turned into a virtual fortress in preparation for Advani's nomination filing.

Intelligence agencies had warned of increased threats to Advani.

"This time we have several Intelligence inputs that there could be trouble during elections. So, we have gone in an alert mode and would continue to be so till elections are over," said Piyush Patel, SP, Gandhinagar.

Assisting the local police was the state reserve police and home guards.

"The two (Advani and Modi) are in Z-plus security category. So we have put up three-tier security at the office. One will be inside the building, another in the premises and third outside," added Patel.

Advani was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The time chosen was an auspicious 12.39 in the afternoon, which the party is hoping would help Advani as he faces more rural voters post delimitation.
