There are reports that Leader of the Opposition and senior BJP leader LK Advani met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday evening.
The RSS has apparently made it clear they want LK Advani to name a successor. This comes just a few days after Advani indicated that he would stay as Leader of the Opposition for the entire five-year term.
Sources have told NDTV that among other things Advani and Bhagwat also discussed Deputy Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj's statement that Advani will continue for full five years as the Leader of Opposition.
Sources further said that RSS is very clear that it is high time Advani thinks about a clear successor in party and Parliament.
Advani alone will not take out his yatras as announced by him in the national executive meeting, but will have to take Rajnath Singh along with him, the sources told.
Everyday, the infighting in the BJP gets worse, now it's active and visible. At the centre of the party's Chintan Baithak in Shimla next week is a state by state report on why the BJP lost the elections. The report is by party leader Bal Apte and is pretty hot to handle.
BJP's report on defeat:
- Infighting between central leaders
- Advani's attacks on Manmohan backfired
- Top leaders worked against party's interests
- Going soft on Varun cost the party
- Weak campaign strategy
The report says the BJP lost because of infighting between the central leaders and it blames Mr Advani and others for calling Dr Manmohan Singh as weak PM.
Many top leaders worked against the party interests in the states and BJP's refusal to take tough action against Varun Gandhi also did not help its cause.
It also blames its campaign strategy for the party's electoral debacle.
BJP leader Chandan Mitra, however, says that there is no report. There is no fact finding; just talking points.
BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy says: "In the last national executive it was decided that a report will be created out of reports from various states on why the party lost the polls and these will be discussed at chintan baithak."
